New BA programmes
During my deanship. New undergraduate programmes were established, including Digital Media.
Alongside research and teaching, I have led and served academic institutions and communities. I was Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication and Languages at Gaza University from 2020 to 2023, I founded and first chaired the Middle East Chapter of the Marie Curie Alumni Association, and I contribute to scholarship through peer review and conferences.
This experience shapes my research on higher education in conflict-affected settings and my advice to universities on programmes, quality and institutional development.
Gaza University, 2020–2023
I led the Faculty's academic and institutional development, covering programme and curriculum development, quality assurance, postgraduate education, staff support and research development. Selected outcomes:
During my deanship. New undergraduate programmes were established, including Digital Media.
Developed and launched the MA in Public Relations and Media during my deanship.
Established the Access Centre for Foreign Journalism.
During my deanship, two international conferences were organised: Media and the Palestinian Issue: Reality and Hope, and The Palestinian Media Under Targeting.
My approach combines strategic planning with attention to the everyday conditions in which staff and students work. Institutional development depends on formal structures and policies, but also on collegial cooperation, academic capacity and an environment that enables research, teaching and intellectual exchange. It is also why I research the relationship between academic governance, institutional capacity and the long-term development of universities, a question central to rebuilding higher education in Gaza.
I contribute to the academic community through scholarly peer review, evaluating research submissions and giving constructive feedback to authors.
I have contributed to organising academic conferences, symposia, workshops and research events that bring scholars, students and practitioners together to exchange research and develop interdisciplinary conversations. These include the two international conferences held during my deanship.
An academic conference that brought together discussion and research on the representation of Palestine, the changing media environment and the challenges facing Palestinian media and communication.
Founding and serving academic communities that strengthen exchange between researchers in the Middle East and international research communities.
I am the founder and first Chair of the Middle East Chapter of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA), which I chaired from 2018 to 2020. I trained candidates from the Middle East to prepare applications for Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowships and organised workshops explaining the fellowships, strengthening academic exchange between researchers in the region and international research communities.
Founding member of the Academic Action Network for Palestine.
I develop and contribute to international partnerships that connect researchers and institutions with research funding and fellowship opportunities. This includes supporting applications, building collaborations across countries and institutions, and helping scholars and universities in conflict-affected and under-resourced settings reach international funding.
My leadership and scholarly service are closely connected to my research, teaching and work with institutions.
