Dr Mohammedwesam Amer Participates in NEU International Conference on Education, War, and Global Solidarity
Dr Mohammedwesam Amer participated as a featured speaker at the National Education Union's Annual International Conference, contributing expertise on education in conflict settings, Palestinian education, and international solidarity under the theme "Books Not Bombs."
Dr Mohammedwesam Amer participated as a featured speaker at the National Education Union (NEU) Annual International Conference, which brought together more than 180 educators, trade union representatives, researchers, and international partners under the theme "Books Not Bombs." The conference provided an important platform for examining the impact of war, militarisation, occupation, and political instability on education systems worldwide, while reinforcing the role of international solidarity in protecting the right to education and supporting communities affected by conflict.
Drawing on his expertise in media, conflict, communication, and Palestinian affairs, Dr Amer contributed to discussions on the state of education in Palestine and the challenges facing students, teachers, schools, and universities operating under conditions of war and uncertainty. His participation formed part of a wider programme that explored the consequences of conflict for education, including the launch of The Security We Choose, a report examining the implications of increased defence spending for education, public services, and international development. The conference concluded with a panel featuring education trade union leaders from Palestine, Lebanon, and Ukraine, who shared first-hand experiences of defending education in contexts affected by war and occupation. Through these discussions, Dr Amer brought scholarly and practitioner perspectives to debates on educational resilience, international cooperation, social justice, and the protection of learning communities facing the realities of contemporary conflict.
